Star Wars: In Concert

As a long time Star Wars fan, I was excited to see the Star Wars: In Concert announcement.

The arena tour showcases John Williams' score performed by a live symphony orchestra and choir. Footage from all six Star Wars films will be synchronized to the music and projected onto a specially constructed LED screens, one of the largest ever taken on tour.

An exhibit of costumes, props and models will also be part of the experience. Many of these items have been stored for 30 years, seen last when they were in front of the camera.

Check out the Star Wars: In Concert site for more information. A few cities are listed for the tour and more will follow.

May the force be with you.

Cruise Ship at Night

One night on my cruise, I decided to take some "artistic" photos. At 1 a.m., I grabbed my camera and headed for the top deck. It was beautiful. The lights glowed. A few people lingered in the hot tubs. Total darkness wrapped itself around the ship. It was like floating in a black hole. Only the engine's hum and the faint sound of moving water broke the silence.

I loved it.

Palin's Shot at the Media

This is not a political blog, but I couldn't resist commenting on Sarah Palin's parting shots to the media.

In talking about the press, she said, "So how about in honor of the American soldier, you quit making up things."

My comment to Sarah:

How about in honor of the American soldier, YOU stay in your position? Without the American soldier, our country wouldn't have the right to elect people like you. Quitting is an insult to every soldier who has ever fought for the freedom of this country.

Mens Swimsuits Getting Shorter

In the article How to Buy a Swimsuit: A GQ Primer we’re told that men’s swimsuits are going shorter this summer. A shorter and fit cut makes us look “trim, confident, and, manly.” Just like the man in the above GQ photo.

Let’s be honest. A swimsuit made with discarded McDonald’s wrappers and dental floss would make this guy look “trim, confident, and manly.”

When shopping for a swimsuit we should look for three key features: flat front, Velcro fly and lace tie. I’m happy to report that the two suits I bought for my cruise had all three!

Swimsuits of this construction will keep your “package private” by preventing clinging as you emerge from the water. (Is GQ missing the entire point of having a package?)

Do you think short swimsuits will come back? GQ tells us they are, but that is the fashion world creating trends. In the example below, the shorts still look out of style and dated to me. How long will it take before our eyes say this look is fashion forward and the in-thing?

In case you want this swimsuit, it’s by Loro Piana and according to GQ costs $345. Yes, $345 for one swimsuit.

No offense to Loro Piana, but for $345 I better get a swimsuit, a private beach cabana, 4 Go-Go boys inside, a fruity drink with an umbrella and a shot of penicillin for the flight home.

Debbie Reynolds Speaks

As part of the cruise ship itinerary during my Mexican Riviera vacation, Debbie Reynolds held a great one-hour Q&A. She was witty, charming and hilarious. Old Hollywood. New Hollywood. Her marriages. Her divorces. Nothing was off limits.

One of the funniest things she said was about her marriage to Eddie Fischer. "When I was married to Eddie, before he went down the Nile . . ."

Of course, this is in reference to Eddie Fischer famously leaving Debbie to be with Elizabeth Taylor (who played Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile).

Another jem: "After Elizabeth's husband died in the plane crash, I sent Eddie over to console her. I didn't realize she would keep him."

The hour flew by and I'm sure the majority of people would have stayed another two hours. After the Q&A, Debbie signed photos and posed for pictures. I had gotten a photo with her earlier in the week, but I wanted another.

Joan Rivers and Michael Rivers Photo Surfaces

My friend, Toni, informed me that she had a great photo of Joan Rivers and me. It was taken back in February 2009 when I spent the day with Joan.

I asked Toni to send the photo. I love it. There are many photos of Joan and me from over the years but this is now one of my favorites.

I remember standing there and talking with Joan. But I don't remember what she said to make me laugh so hard. I'm sure it was hilarious!
