Legends I've Seen: Barbara Mandrell

Legend:
Barbara Mandrell

Number of Concerts I've Attended:
Barbara won 75 major awards and her career spanned almost four decades. I was fortunate enough to attend one of her farewell concerts.

Iconic moment:
Barbara singing Sleeping Single in a Double Bed. The song was her 25th hit and spent three weeks at number one.

A very talented blonde babe, indeed! She has a unique voice and I do not use that word often...I never saw her live but I wish I had. Hope you had a chocolatey Easter, Michael! Mwah! AJ

Have not seen her in concert. Didn't she have her own sitcom also or was she in a day time soap.

Wow, I haven't heard that name in a long time. I liked her too, although I never really followed her career. Hope you had a nice Easter.

Now Michael, I want you to keep this between you and me, but, um, well, I like Barbara Mandrell.
"You Can Eat Crackers In My Bed"
Love it.
Used to watch her show but never told a soul. I had an anti-country music rep to maintain! =)

Michael -- I know I've lived abroad for quite a while but just seeing the name "Barbara Mandrell" was a blast from the past. Hadn't thought of her in ages, wow. I love that you post things on lots of celebrities that are/were big in the US but not known well or at all outside -- nice way for me to keep up with Americana.
Wishing you a good week!
Michael

I have to say that I know a few of her songs - but never really got into her - maybe it was just timing.

My fave Barbara Mandrell moment is in the movie "Fool For Love" when Harry Dean Stanton's character refers to a photo of her on the wall of his trailer and says...

"I'm actually married to Barbara Mandrell in my mind."

Michael if I remember correctly, she has a song called "The Letter" and has a line...give me a ticket for an airplane, because I don't have time to take the train...I am certain it is hers. I love that song. I have to go and look it up now.

Duchess, that song "The Letter" is on Barbara's very FIRST album, "Treat Him Right," from about 1969-70, more or less! You have an incredible memory!

OMG! Barbara Mandrell was one of my most favorite country singers for her time when country wasn't really cool. I loved the show with her sisters.

I often wondered what happened to her and why she stays out of the limelight. I am sure she has more money than God and can have a nice private life now. I wish she would try to make a comeback. She really is awesome! I think she would be great on DWTS!

Good grief that's a lot of awards. Sleeping single in a big bed...now that is the life...

I said the same thing a few days ago, Kenneth - I would LOVE to see Barbara on Dancing With The Stars! She would be GREAT!!!! I'd also love to see Lynn Anderson (of "Rose Garden" fame) on there, and actor Christopher Plummer!
